Property

A property is the assignment of a quality to an entity, for instance its width or location.

More rigorously, a property is comprised of a three-part binding between the entity, the quality and its value:

Entity Quality Value
Mango Taste Sweet
Mango Colors Yellow, Red, Green
Lemon Taste Sour
Lemon Colors Green, Yellow

In the context of systems, a property is a kind of interaction between three units: a quality element, a value element, and a unit to which this quality is assigned, which can be an element or interaction, even another property.

For example, we could assign the value "blue" to the "color" quality of the element "rose". For a given rose that is actually red, we could also assign the value "false" to the "truth" quality of the first property:

Property Unit Quality (Element) Value (Element)
1 Red rose (Element) Color Blue
2 Property 1 (Interaction) Truth False

While a simplistic and measurable quality such as color, temperature or weight can be very uncontroversial or even trivial, properties can also be ascribed rather than inherent. The property of truth mentioned previously is one notable example, which is applied or not to a given stance depending entirely on the concept of truth of the one applying it and the justifications and refutals in play to dispute it.
