Volition
Volition is a cognitive process through which someone weighs possibilities and makes a decision.
This outcome of volition can motivate a state of intention, which is a determination to act that can be either attempted or displaced by another act of volition towards a different course of action.
Not all decisions pass through a conscious volitional act. For example, one can develop the intention to do something but simply forget to carry it out or be prevented from doing it by forces out of their control.
