Cult of Disconnection

A cult of disconnection is a group of people that sustains a given opinion based on the group's and other third-party descriptions -- such as those consumed through some form of media -- regarding a second group that they have little or no direct contact with.

In a sense, it is not the second group that they have an opinion on, but their own image of it.

A typical example of a disconnection cult are people who gather online to vilify and harass a given minority that they themselves don't personally interact with, don't directly listen to aside from the selected exhibits of wretchedness that the group itself selects, and sometimes rarely even personally sees due to exclusions such as gentrification.
