Expectation

While an expectation can be the result of an explicit agreement, expectations can also be derived from the social context, personal values, idiosyncratic views of "common sense", or simply the past shared experience of these expectations not being met.

Over time, one who doesn't see their expectations met can develop feelings of frustration and exhaustion. Conversely, not fulfilling or misunderstanding what is expected of oneself can lead to feelings of guilt, shame and worthlessness.
